History of Houndstooth
The Houndstooth plaid is characterised as being a duo-tone plaid, made up of four bands, two which are dark coloured, and the other two light, in both the warp and weft weave, which are woven in a standard, simple 2:2 twill weave. This creates the unique contrasting check and block shape of the Houndstooth. By experimenting with the size, scale and colours of the weave, many variations can be created.

History of Madras
Madras Plais is a pattern comprising of coloured checks and stripes that intersect to create uneven checked patterns. The Madras is also known for being a lively and colourful plaid created in an array of bold colours, which is an expansion of its original staple colours of red and blue and black, made from the limited vegetable dyes of the time, that were used on the cloth. Today, pretty much any colours are used with Madras Plaid, the brighter the better!
